What is known about Tanner’s mortal life is very little, assuming the information is accurate. Although there are rumors that range from, he was a serial killer, to he was simply abused throughout life… he keeps his silence about those times.

What is known is that Tanner came from what is now southern Virginia, from English heritage. His family is believed to have held public office or some other position of power. Although he claims elder lineage, it is assumed he took his last breath no more then three hundred years ago.

Something inhumane and violent resides within Tanner, and he has exhibited an almost split personality. When angered he is brutal, and downright monstrous. When he is seemingly in control of himself, He s cold, calculating, and cruel. In both cases however, it has been noted that Tanner is an amazingly honorable combatant and strategist.

Tanner Has survived multiple sieges on the Washington area, and had even (as the rumors go) had been captured and held hostage early on in his kindred unlife. If that is true, then it may also be true, that he killed his grandsire in cold blood for not allowing his (Tanner’s) sire to sacrifice him to remove a tool of leverage from the sabbatt. If rumors are to be trusted that is.

Tanner was accused during the famed siege of 1999 to have Diablerized a Nosferatu captive. He was since investigated after the prisoners disappearance, and has been acquitted of any wrongdoing.

Tanner served faithfully and nearly without incident since he was installed in his current position by the first (and until recently, only) prince of the Maryland princedom; Roberto Mancia. Although some would argue that he is given more liberties then a normal scourge would be, none can say he is not effective at his chosen profession. …or unlifestyle depending on whom you ask.

Due to the nature of Tanner’s position, he is in command of an unfathomable amount of area knowledge and history. He also is rumored to control unspeakable force on the cold mean streets of this area. An unknown number of ghouls and retainers are in his service. Not even the Prince Herself now knows for certain what type of army is at Tanner’s fingertips. It is whispered, that if anyone else had the drive, and the resources to take control of this city, it would be Mr. Valmont. But if he has any such plans to do so, he chooses to keep his own council.

For all of Tanner’s… "quirks" and his cruelty, He is afforded a wide berth even by other elders. He commands status nearly equal to that of Prince DiFranco herself.
